Biography & Genealogy:	Thomas Alexander, Class of 1862: Born- ca. 1843. Matriculated from Heathsville, Va. At VMI 2 years. Military Record: Drillmaster in Richmond, Va., in Spring of 1861. Enlisted on August 24, 1861, with Co. C, 40th Va. Sgt on Sep. 1, 1862. 1st Lt. in early 1863. Acting Brigade Ordnance Officer in Spring 1863. Acting Regimental Adjutant in Summer of 1863. Killed in Action gallantly leading men at Petersburg. Died- ca. Oct 1, 1864, at Petersburg.
