Military Record: Enlisted at Fincastle May 17, 1861; wounded by accidental discharge of weapon in spring of 1861; Appointed Captain of Co. C, 2nd Va. Cavalry (originally 30th Va. Infantry) on July 1, 1861; promoted to Major Jan. 16, 1862; not re-elected at reorganization April 1862; Became Volunteer Aide-De-Camp to then Brig. Gen. J. A. Early in Aug. 1862; Captured by six Federals in Aug. 1862 but he persuaded them to surrender to him; Appointed 1st Lieut. and Aide-De-Camp to Early on April 23, 1863; was Early's Acting Assistant Adjutant General in Feb. 1864. Career: Farmer. Died- April 11, 1896, in Roanoke, Va.|
