Biography & Genealogy: | William K.B. Park, Class of 1861 (graduated 4 out of 17): Born- July 31, 1840. Matriculated from Ravenswood, (West Virginia). At VMI 4 years. Military Record: Left with guard at VMI April 1861. Seems to have held commission of some sort in Provosional Army of Virginia summer 1861. Lieutenant and Adjutant, 36th Virginia (only record is name on August 10, 1861 list). Assigned to engineer duty by Brig Gen (later Maj Gen) H. Heth. On April 15, 1863 Brig Gen A.G. Jenkins requested his as Lt and Drill Master ("His proficiency as a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute, together with his industry and character fit him eminently for the appointment.") Commissioned 2nd Lt June 25, 1863 and assigned as instructor to 17th Virginia Cavalry. Later Acting Adjutant. Absent sick June, September-OCtober 1864. At unknown date appointed 2nd Lt Engineers and ordered to North Carolina. Paroled in hospital, Salisbury, North Carolina May 2, 1865. Post War Career: ? Died- May 5, 1865 of illness contracted in service. Buried Salisbury, North Carolina. |
