|Biography & Genealogy:||Emmett Masalon Morrison, Class of 1861 (graduated 6 out of 17). Born- August 21, 1841. Matriculated from Smithfield, Va. At VMI 3 years. Military Record: Drill Master, Richmond spring 1861. Served as engineer and post adjutant (Provisional Army of Virginia?) at Jamestown Island. Elected Captain, Company C, 15th Virginia April 25, 1862. Severely Wounded in Action (right shoulder, lost arm) and captured at Antietam. Held at Fort Delaware, Delaware. Exchanged April 1863. Meanwhile, promoted to Major November 7, 1862 (date of rank August 19). In hospital (Petersburg) spring 1863. In August 1863 Medical Board found him unfit for field duty. On furlough August-October 1863. Returned to duty and promoted to Lt Col April 22, 1864 (date of rank January 24, 1863). Captured April 6, 1865 at Sayler's Creek. Held at Johnston's Island, Ohio. Released on oath July 25, 1865. Post War Career: School official, postmaster. Episcopal. Married Sarah A. Wilson 1872. Died- June 8, 1932. Buried Old St Luke's Church near Smithfield.|
