|Biography & Genealogy:||Henry Woodis Hunter, Class of 1861: (graduated 1st out of 17 cadets) Born- February 7, 1842. Matriculated from Norfolk, Va. Military Record: Drill Master, Richmond spring 1861. On November 13, 1861 Chief of Ordnance Colonel (later Brigadier General) J. Gorgas applied for his appontment as 2nd Lt. He was too young so Gorgas asked to have him appointed Cadet and attached to Ordnance Department. Appointed Cadet artillery, Reserve Army Confederate States, Novembber 16, 1861. Assigned to ordnance at Richmond Arsenal. Died- January 15, 1862 in Richmond, Va of "camp fever." "a most promising young officer."|
