Biography & Genealogy: | John William Houck, Class of 1861 (graduated 14th out of 17: Born- December 19, 1842. Matriculated from Harrisonburg, Va. At VMI 4 years. Military Record: Drill Master with 10th Va spring-summer 1861. Entered service September 17, 1861 at Camp Blair for 1 year as 2nd Lt, Company G, 10th Va. To 1st Lt November 7, 1861. Unofficial source says captured fall 1861 while home on sick leave (typhoid fever) and exchanged summer 1862. Not re-elected spring 1862 when regiment re-organized and dropped from rolls. Joined Capt J.H. McNeill's Company Va Cavalry (Partisan Rangers). Only record of this last service is name on 1864 clothing issue record. Post War Career: Merchant. Alive in February 1910.
