Military Record: Drillmaster during the spring of 1861; appointed 2d Lieutenant, Company A, 1st Virginia Battalion on May 1, 1861; served as Adjutant in November 1861; on recruiting duty March 1862; appointed 2d Lieutenant, Provisional Army of the Confederate States, on March 13, 1862 (date of rank Jan. 28); served as Assistant Adjutant General to Colonel (later Brigadier General) B.T. Johnson from August to September 1862; temporarily commanded a Company from the 28th North Carolina at Cedar Mountain; promoted to 1st Lieutenant Dec. 8, 1862 (date of rank Oct. 11); detached from unit Jan.-Feb. 1863 to collect absentees; promoted to Captain July 31, 1863 (date of rank July 27); detailed for court martial duty November 1863; paroled at Appomattox as Captain, Company A, 1st Virginia Battalion. Post War Career: Civil Engineer. Died- July 18, 1904 in Petersburg, VA. |
