Maternal grandparents- William Craig & Elizabeth (maiden name unknown). Paternal grandparents- Joseph Bell & Susan (maiden name unknown). All grandparents were from Augusta Co. Married 1st (1845) Anne Archer Robertson of Richmond VA. Married 2nd (March 3, 1858) Sarah Jane Crawford, daughter of James Crawford of Augusta Co., VA; she died in 1861. Married 3rd (1865) Eliza F. Crawford Simms, another daughter of James Crawford. Children (from 1st marriage) Charles, George Robertson, and Nannie; (from 2nd marriage) William Tolliver. VMI record: entered VMI on November 11, 1839 from Augusta Co., VA and graduated on July 4, 1842, standing 13th in a class of 16. Civil War service: Capt. J. W. Bell's Company, Col. J. Baldwin's Regiment, Virginia Local Defense Troops. Career: Farmer. Died May 23, 1879, Augusta Co., VA. Buried Thornrose Cemetery, Staunton, VA.
