| Biography & Genealogy: | Adolphus Staton, Class of 1899 (non-graduate). Medal of Honor recipient. Staton was a career naval officer, who at retirement held the rank of Rear Admiral. He was the son of Dr. Lycurgus Lafayette Staton and Kate Baker Staton of Tarboro, North Carolina. Education: Staton attended VMI for one year (1896-1897); he subsequently enrolled at the University of North Carolina and the U. S. Naval Academy, from which he was graduated in 1902. He later received a law degree (in 1917) from George Washington University. Career Highlights: Received Medal of Honor for his actions at Vera Cruz, Mexico, in 1914; served with Judge Advocate General's office; during World War I served as officer on transports; commanded USS Asheville in Far East, 1925; Chief of Bureau of Navigation (1926-1929); during thirties returned to sea duty, then was instructor at the Command and General Staff College (1935-1937); retired but was recalled to active duty during World War II, working on the staff of the Undersecretary of the Navy; retired for the final time at the end of the war. Later life/marriage: Engaged in real estate business in Chevy Chase, MD; Married Edith Blair of Baltimore in 1917; they had one daughter. Death: On 5 June 1964; buried Arlington National Cemetery.
