Biography & Genealogy: | Cary D. Langhorne, Class of 1894. Medal of Honor recipient. Genealogy: Born May 14, 1873, Lynchburg, VA. Father- John D. Langhorne. Mother - Nannie Tayloe. Education: Entered VMI September 1890; graduated June 1894. Received medical degree from University of Virginia in 1897. Military Service: Commissioned in the U. S. Navy as an Assistant Surgeon in 1898; promoted to Surgeon in 1903; served in the Philippines and wounded at Novalita, 1899; served in Cuba, 1906; Vera Cruz, Mexico, 1914- received Medal of Honor for actions at Vera Cruz; resigned from Navy in 1916, but returned to active duty during World War I as senior Surgeon on U. S. Transport President Grant; mustered out May 1919. Promoted to Commander, Medical Corps, U. S. Navy Reserves. Later life: Physician; married Zaidee Gaff (died 1966) in 1907, no children. Resided at his home at St. Bride's Farm, Upperville, VA. Death: Died April 25, 1948; buried Arlington National Cemetery (gravesite i.d. 11-868). |
