Biography & Genealogy:Henry Watson Williamson, Class of 1845. Genealogy: Born 1823 September 23 at Norfolk Virginia; Parents- Thomas Williamson and Anne Walke; Marriage- Patty Green, on October 24, 1861; no children. VMI Record: Enrolled on July 22, 1842 and graduated on July 4, 1845, standing 14th out of 20 graduates. Military Record: Mexican War- Lieutenant, 1st Virginia Regiment; Civil War- 6th Virginia Infantry Regiment CSA; lost left arm at the Battle of the Crater; left service because of wounds 1864 December 21. Career: civil engineer; VMI Librarian 1876-1884. Died in Lexington, Virginia on October 10, 1884; originally buried at the VMI cemetery; reinterred at the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery, Lexington. Brother of Thomas Hoomes Williamson, VMI Faculty member.

The database currently includes the names of all enrolled students (both graduates and non-graduates) from VMI's opening in 1839 through the World War II era. In addition, you will find biographical and genealogical information, including a summary of military service during the Civil War, for many individuals who attended in the 19th century. The database also includes some historical Faculty and Board of Visitors members, as well as U. S. Army students sent to VMI for training during World Wars I and II.
