Biography & Genealogy:Leonidas Augustus Vaughan (Class of 1845). Genealogy: Born 1826; Parents- Alfred Jefferson Vaughan and Dorothy Vaughan of Dinwiddie Co., VA; Paternal Grandparents: Peter Vaughan and Martha Boisseau of Dinwiddie Co.; Maternal Grandparents: Robert Vaughan and Lucy Hunt of Amelia, Co. VA. Siblings: Augustus, Mary Virginia, Alfred J., Jr. (VMI Class of 1851), Benjamin Joseph. VMI Record: Enrolled on July 5, 1842; resigned due to academic deficiencies on February 10, 1843 (effective Feb. 5). Career: After leaving VMI he went West and settled near St. Joseph, Missouri, among the Pottawattomie tribe of Indians; was an Indian trader. Death: At age 25; died of cholera on the Ohio River, near Wheeling, WV, while returning to Virginia to visit relatives.

The database currently includes the names of all enrolled students (both graduates and non-graduates) from VMI's opening in 1839 through the World War II era. In addition, you will find biographical and genealogical information, including a summary of military service during the Civil War, for many individuals who attended in the 19th century. The database also includes some historical Faculty and Board of Visitors members, as well as U. S. Army students sent to VMI for training during World Wars I and II.
