Also graduated from University of Va. Civil War Record- Served briefly as Lieut. of Co. K. 3rd Va. Cavalry in early 1861; Appointed Major for 16th Va. Regiment May 16, 1861; Promoted to Lieut. Col. May 17, 1861; Promoted to Col.
