Enlisted December 1, 1863 in Fauquier County for war as Private. Company H, 4th Virginia Cavalry. In hospital (Gordonsville) March 1865 (syphilis). Paroled at Charlottesville may 16, 1865. Post War Career: Lawyer; journalist. At UVa 1865-67. Clerk, US House of Representatives 1885-86. Secretary, Virginia State Democrat Convention 1883-87. Virginia State law librarian 1894. Edited Charlottesville Chronicle and Gordonsville Gazette. Democrat. Died- January 17, 1929 in Charlottesville, Va.
