Biography & Genealogy:Waller John Tyler, Class of 1865: Born- September 5, 1845. Matriculated from Lynchburg, Va. At VMI 12 days (entered as a sophomore). Military Record: Unofficial source says served with 8th Va fall 1861. Enlisted March 10, 1862 at Lynchburg for 3 years or war as Pvt, Company G, 11th Va ($50 bounty). Captured (unofficial sources say also severely wounded in action) at Williamsburg. Exchanged August 2, 1862 and discharged as minor Aug 22, 1862 by order of Secretary of War. Entered VMI September 1862 but discharged for neglect of duty. Appointed Midshipman, CSN October 18, 1862. At Richmond Station 1862-63. At Charleston (SC) Station 1863-64 where he served on Palmetto State and Stono. Joined Col J.S. Mosby's Regiment Va Cavalry (43rd Battalion Va Cavalry) spring 1864. Killed in action near the Plains. Died- March 14, 1865. Grandson of US President and CS Congressman John Tyler.
