Biography & Genealogy:Reuben Frank Davis served as Post Surgeon (VMI Physician) from August 1917 until his death from influenza on October 5, 1918. Genealogy: Born November 7, 1886 at Hermitage, Augusta Co., Virginia; Father- Reuben Frank Davis, a doctor. Mother- Bettie Grove. Education: Fishburne Military Academy; and the University of Virginia. Career: Practiced medicine in Augusta county for nine years before moving to Rockbridge County; first practiced in the Fancy Hill area and then moved his practice to the town of Lexington. Served as a physician to Washington & Lee University students; chosen VMI physician in 1917. Marriage: To Bessie Lee Lackey, daughter of William and Evelyn Lackey of Rockbridge County, on Feb. 15, 1911. Four children: Elizabeth, R. Frank, William, and John McCluer (born 6 months after his father's death). Death: Died in the "Spanish flu" epidemic of 1918, the first victim in Lexington. Became ill around October 2 and died on October 5, 1918. Buried Stonewall Jackson Cemetery, Lexington, VA.
