|Biography & Genealogy:||James Henry Crocken, VMI Musician (Fifer; New Market Staff). Born Feb. 10, 1821 in Washington DC (Georgetown). One of three musicians accompanying Corps at the Battle of New Market. Early in life served as musician in the Marines Corps and served in Mexican War; came to VMI about 1854 and stayed until 1885 when, with his family he moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to join his son, William Jacob Crocken (VMI Class of 1877). Married: March 16, 1844 Julia Anne Lidia Marks; 10 children- Francis, George, Sallie, William (VMI 1877), Henry (VMI 1879), Edward, Julia, Herbert, Mary, and Martha. Died at Lincoln, Nebraska on August 5, 1889. His wife died May 9, 1903 at Oakland, CA.|
